Oftentimes, in a Waldorf School, the children in Class 5 (10-11 year-olds) study ancient mythologies and participate in a Greek Pentathlon. In the next several posts, I will cover our homeschool version of this event. Let me just start by sending my love and heartfelt thanks out to all of the parents, planners, organizers, athletes, families, spectators, and the weather for embodying the true spirit of cooperation and creating a beautiful and deeply memorable experience for our children!
First things first...The making of a Goddess...
Hera, Queen of Heaven and Earth...
and of course...Zeus! ( I didn't get a picture of Zeus as he entangled himself in his toga, but he was here with us as well...I just couldn't keep my eyes of Hera!)
Some of our lovely singers rehearsing the opening hymn...
The water-bearers and the vessels they will use to bring water to the athletes, judges and other thirsty individuals...
The water-bearers also adorned their ankles with Hermes' wings as they prepared to lead the parade of Goddesses, Gods and Athletes for the Opening Ceremonies...
The Program listing the names of Athletes and Events...
One of our hard-working judges and the Mistress of Ceremonies...
The woman who spearheaded the event and got the ball rolling...
More to come!
