Summer Solstice Greek Pentathlon & Field Day: Part II: Opening Ceremonies

And now I present part II of our Summer Games!  Looking back through these pictures always reminds me of what an amazing community we have!  There was so much preparation and
behind-the-scenes work that went into making this event a success...and I think it far exceeded all of our hopes and expectations.  Once again, I am so grateful to my community for pulling it together.  This was a very special memory that will be etched into that forever place in our hearts.

The Parade of the City States, led by the Gods and Goddesses

Four of our lovely singers sing the Opening Hymn

Zeus and Hera welcome the Athletes

The athletes swear the Olympic Oath

"In the name of all competitors, we promise to participate in this pentathlon respecting and abiding by the rules that govern it and embody the noble qualities of honor and integretiy in the true spirit of sportsmanship."

Zeus addresses the athletes
Hera prepares the golden vessel
that will recieve each athlete's Ode to the Gods

Athena receives each athlete's Ode

The Odes to the Gods: each athlete wrote an Ode, representing the kind of energy or gift she or he wanted to bring to the Games.

The Lighting of the Torch

We had several Grandparents as spectators: some who live here, some visiting from the lower 48.  It was quite special to include our Omas, Opas, Grandpas and other elders in our games.

One of our awesome dads collects the pin flags as the atheletes warm up and prepare for the first event.

You inspire me. Now I HAVE to sift through my 200 + pictures of the Pentathlon and try and come out with something as simple and complete as you are doing.

Nice job.

These games were powerful on so many levels for so many ages.

Thank you for helping to make them happen.

Thank you for posting your pictures.
